The story of the episode takes place after the 2019 movie "Avengers 4: Endgame". In the film, Loki stole the Cube with space gems during the New York War in 2012, opening another time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. line. In the episode, Loki uses space gems to travel through time and space and change the machine butler class calendar. In August 2019, director Kate Herron stated that the series "Brings Loki into a new time and space in the Marvel Cinematic Universe", and lead screenwriter Michael Waldron revealed that the series "Will reveal issues that everyone cares about: Where did Loki go after stealing the Space Stone? Can  Loki make friends?” In November, executive producer Stephen Broussard said that the series will include time travel elements. In March 2020, Michael Waldon stated that the series will focus on the character's "identity". In July, Waldon stated that the series will contain science fiction elements.  Loki’s styling draws on the four-issue mini-comic "Vote for  Loki", which also focuses on conspiracy theories and distorted reality. Kevin Fitch revealed that the TV series " Loki" will be linked to the 2022 movie "Doctor Strange 2".
