With Star Wars Episode 9 coming out next week, we should all prepare for the end of a 40+ year saga. From Phantom Menace to The Last Jedi, Star Wars fans have had a lot of ups and downs. But we are all entitled to our opinions for the beauty of this nerdy world and that at the end of the day, we love this crazy universe that George Lucas created. With that being said, we are going to give our predictions for what will happen to each main character in the final episode of the Skywalker Saga.
Played by Adam Driver
As the son of galactic legends Han Solo and Leia Organa, the boy once known as Ben Solo was seduced by the dark side of the Force and renamed himself Kylo Ren, becoming the First Order’s champion and Supreme Leader Snoke’s student. Kylo killed his father and seeks to destroy his mother’s Resistance and the remnants of the Jedi Order. Though a servant of the dark side, he still struggles against the pull of the light side of the Force.
Considering that Kylo killed his father and attempted to assassinate his mother, it would make far more sense if he was ultimately beyond saving. There will probably be an air of tragedy to Kylo's inevitable demise. But we believe there is still good in Kylo. Just like in Episode 6, when we saw that Darth Vader still had good in him, we predict that there will be a scene that mirrors the epic plot twist. There’s also a sure thing that Rey and Kylo Ren will have one last duel for the fate of the galaxy. The Knights of Ren are also a concern, there’s plenty of intrigue about their characters and the spoiler shows their absence to be well-explained in The Rise of Skywalker.
Played by Daisy Ridley
As a girl once known as no one, a scavenger toughened by life in Jakku’s harsh deserts, Rey has been drawn into a galaxy-spanning conflict and learned that her life is being shaped by the mysterious power of the Force. She seeks out Luke Skywalker, the lost Jedi Master, in hopes that he will aid the Resistance against the First Order and help her control her growing powers. But when that quest ends in disappointment, Rey must find a new way forward.
The backstory of Rey still remains to be a mystery. In The Rise of Skywalker trailer, Rey is still struggling to find her place and secure her sense of identity. "The Last Jedi" provided us with some sort of answer as to Rey's parentage, but a lot of fans still aren't buying it. There are rumors that "The Force Awakens" director J.J. Abrams had something different in mind for Rey's parents. One of our predictions is that Rey is the descendant of the Emperor Palpatine. If you listen to the theme music for both Rey and Palpatine, some fans think there are similarities. "Star Wars" composer John Williams is known to tie together the theme music of characters who are related.
Played by Oscar Isaacs
As a commander in the Resistance’s Starfighter Corps, Poe Dameron is one of Leia Organa’s most-trusted operatives. Poe leads the attack that destroys Starkiller Base, but soon finds himself on the run from the First Order. Sidelined without his beloved X-wing, he learns tough lessons about leadership, heroism and sacrifice.
Poe is clearly being prepared to take on a major role as a new leader figure within the Resistance. General Leia has been molding Poe into a leader for the past two movies, and by the end of The Last Jedi, it seems that he fully understands the sacrifice and patience it takes to lead a movement. We'll probably see a much wiser Poe in Episode IX.
Played by Joonas Suotamo/ Peter Mayhew
Chewbacca has been many things: Wookiee warrior, ace smuggler and rebel hero. Known for his short temper and accuracy with a bowcaster, Chewie also had a big heart – and unflagging loyalty to his friends. He flew the Falcon alongside Rey after the Corellian’s death.
As one of the most series’ beloved and faithful characters since the original trilogy and as Rey's quasi mentor figure, the fiercely protective beast has had his fair share of heroic moments in the saga. We believe that at the end of the trilogy Chewie will leave the Millennium Falcon with other newest groups of heroes. Or maybe he’ll go back to his home planet.
Played by Mark Hamill
Luke Skywalker was a Tatooine farmboy who rose from humble beginnings to become one of the greatest Jedi the galaxy has ever known. A generation later, the location of the famed Jedi master was one of the galaxy’s greatest mysteries. Haunted by Ben Solo’s fall to evil and convinced the Jedi had to end, Luke sought exile on a distant world, ignoring the galaxy’s pleas for help.
Luke Skywalker dies at the end of The Last Jedi and passes over to the Force, but that's almost certainly not the end of the story for the franchise icon. Though his physical form vanished, it’s also an indication that he might have turned into a Force ghost. He may aid Rey in the fight with Kylo and the Emperor.
Played by John Boyega
Finn was formerly known as FN-2187, a Stormtrooper who rebelled and joined the Resistance for real after posing as a self-professed "big deal." Finn helped the Resistance destroy Starkiller Base, but had to decide his true loyalties. The mission alongside Rose Tico convinced him that he had to commit himself to the Resistance’s cause.
Finn clearly actually is a big deal in the Resistance, taking part in major missions with other Resistance leaders. But his survival is all but guaranteed, as is a continuation of his romance with Rose.
