“The Legend of Zelda” – there might exist only a handful of gamers who haven’t held the helm of the protagonist Link guiding him through his fantasy-filled adventures over the lands of Hyrule! With the first installment surfacing in 1986, the Zelda series have come a long way in the past three decades.
With what started as a mere action adventure rescue mission of Link saving queen Zelda from the evils of Ganon, the Legend of Zelda series has matured at pace on all fronts. Only after two installments in 2D the developers shifted to a top-down 2.5D view in their third installment; which also had the honor of being re-released as the first multiplayer Zelda. Fast forward five years and with Ocarina of Time the developers gifted their fans a full 3D game with new gameplay mechanics as well as lock-on targeting system. Closely followed the critically acclaimed “Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask” which was the second game in the series to use 3D graphics. And of course! Who can forget how the fans’ patience levels were tested to the limits when Breath of the Wild’s release was postponed two times before launching in full force for both the Wii U and Nintendo Switch in March 2017. The Legend of Zelda series has always held the higher ranks in popularity.
As Grand Theft Auto director, Dan Houser, perfectly summarizes.
It is easy to judge the massive popularity of the franchise’s popularity by the mere fact that as of April 2018, it had sold over 80 million copies! Due to the fan demands, a number of books, novels and gamebooks have been released. Furthermore, an animated Zelda short was broadcast each Friday, replacing the usual Super Mario Bros cartoon. One major reason for this immense popularity are the unique characters of the series
Though everyone is entitled to have their own opinion, there are two characters in the series which are impossible to unlike; Link and Midna. The strong character of Midna has more dialogue and it is amusingly interesting to see her grow in her personality and aura. That being said, there’s nobody who doesn’t love our hero Link here. Brave, kind and at times humorous, Link offers a little something for everybody! As you progress through the series, you encounter a multitude of moments which you consider to be immense bar any competition; for most us it was the final boss fight in Breath of the Wild.
After the spine-chilling cut-scene where the divine beasts unite to help you beat Gorgon, the game hits its peak as you keep on dodging and use all at your disposal to slay the beast; Master Sword, Hylian/Mirror Shield as well as an array of arrows and bombs! Though some regard the boss fight and generally the game to be difficult, it is really easy to master if you follow a few tips.
The first tip on everyone’s list is to use the environment for your aid. From cutting trees to throwing boulders over enemies, the Legend of Zelda environment helps you more than you give it credit for.
Another major tip for new players is to revisit already explored areas to unlock treasures that were simply unavailable before. Last but the not the least, you can master this game if you consider yourself a part of the adventure and feel the thrill as you go on about it!
